Guidelines for a new reason code for DROP requests

What is DROP?


DROP (Delete Request and Opt-Out Platform) is a platform created by the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) under California's Delete Act. It allows California residents (consumers/end users) to submit a single request directing every registered data broker to delete their personal information and restrict further sale or sharing where required. In this sense, DROP is a mechanism for registered data brokers to receive and process those requests. When an end user’s information on the DROP matches a data broker’s records, the broker must delete the end user’s personal information. As a registered data broker, Telesign is required to check DROP regularly and process applicable requests. 



What's changing?

You may start seeing transaction blocks for two of our services, Phone ID and Intelligence, involving end users who have submitted a DROP request.

Transactions with status code 10041 indicate that the transaction has been blocked due to legal and compliance requirements.

When this status code is returned, Telesign will not provide the requested PhoneID or Intelligence output for that transaction. 



You will not be charged for these transactions. A blocked transaction with status code 10041 is treated as not executed for billing purposes.



Required action on your side 



When you receive 10041 status code for an end user, you should assess your own legal obligations regarding the end user’s personal information, including whether deletion, de-identification, or other restrictions are required under laws applicable to you.
